Platte River believes
that companies have a responsibility to be involved and contribute
to their communities. Platte River focuses its community-based
efforts in four primary areas:
- Environmental stewardship
- Youth education
- Economic vitality
- Helping persons in need
Rawhide Tours
Located 26 miles
north of Fort Collins, Colorado, the Rawhide
Energy Station is the
flagship of Platte River Power Authority's
generation
resources. Tours of the plant are provided by reservation only and
guided by experienced staff. Participants gain a basic understanding
of the coal-fired electricity generation process at Rawhide including
its state-of-the-art environmental systems.
Rawhide tours may be scheduled Monday through Thursday with start times
between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday tours are preferable
and easier to schedule.
Tour groups must have a minimum of five people. The maximum number
of people per tour is 50.
Tour participants must be at least 10-years-old or in the 5th grade.
Exceptions may be made if a younger child is accompanied by a parent
or guardian.
Tours start on time and take approximately 1-1/2 hours. If you
arrive late, your tour time may be shortened.

Community
Groups
Platte River staff is available to attend group meetings
and provide presentations on the utility's generation and
transmission operations as well as the legislative, regulatory,
environmental and economic issues facing Platte River and the electricity
industry as a whole.
Schools
In-school
presentations are available to support science curricula at the 4th
grade level and above.
Elementary school presentations describe the basics
of how electricity
is generated using various kinds
of resources.
Middle school
and High school presentations address energy
transformation and the
economic, environmental and reliability
considerations of generating electricity using
fossil fuels and renewable resources.
Content can be customized to meet specific teacher
needs.
