Platte River Power Authority Named Climate Action Leader™ for Second Consecutive Year FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The California Climate Action Registry has named Platte River Power Authority a Climate Action Leader for a second consecutive year. Platte River has been a member of the Climate Action Registry for three years. Registry members that have successfully certified their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory earn the status of Climate Action Leader. Platte River was re-certified for its 2006 emissions. "Platte River has a long history of environmental stewardship," said Brian Moeck, Platte River’s General Manager. "Platte River is proud to be recognized by an organization whose stringent reporting standards reinforce Platte River's environmental philosophy." By joining the Registry, member organizations demonstrate their concern regarding global climate change. By becoming a Climate Action Leader, members take action by measuring, certifying and reporting their GHG emissions to the Registry and to the public. Platte River's environmental focus can be seen through its commitment to renewable energy like wind, in its fleet that includes hybrid and solar-powered electric vehicles, and through energy efficiency programs for homes, businesses and through environmental controls at the Rawhide Energy Station. Certification is an annual process. Registry members must report and certify their GHG inventory every year in order to maintain Climate Action Leader status. The Registry requires the inclusion of all direct GHG emissions, along with indirect GHG emissions from electricity use. Platte River will file 2007 emissions in June.
